Catelyn tries to convince the Baratheon brothers to abandon their quarrel and unite against the Lannisters, while Sansa is chastised by Joffrey in revenge for her brother’s victories. Joffrey punishes Sansa for Robb’s victories, while Tyrion and Bronn scramble to temper the king’s cruelty. Catelyn entreats Stannis and Renly to forego their ambitions and unite against the Lannisters. Dany and her exhausted khalasar arrive at the gates of Qarth, a prosperous city with strong walls and rulers who greet her outside them. Tyrion coerces a queen’s man into being his eyes and ears. Arya and Gendry are taken to Harrenhal, where their lives rest in the hands of “The Mountain,” Gregor Clegane. Davos must revert to his old ways and smuggle Melisandre into a secret cove.
Yet the Lannister has told on the Throne is under assault on many fronts. Robb Stark, Ned’s firstborn, the late slain lord of Winterfell now has a desire to seek autonomy in the North, and he even took Cersei’s brother Jaime as his prisoner. Daenerys Targaryen, the newest barbarian-dragon queen seeks power in the East with her three newborn dragons. Stannis Baratheon turns a thumbs down to Joffrey’s legitimacy and even aligns with at his fierce and powerful priestess Melisandre to raise a naval attack. And there’s Renly, Stannis’ charismatic brother has also maintained his very own claim since fleeing King’s Landing.
