Motorcycle riding has become more popular in recent years, appealing to a new group of enthusiasts consisting of older and more affluent riders. There were about 8.0 million motorcycles on the road in 2009, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. The Motorcycle Industry Council estimates that the percentage of U.S. households with at least one bike rose from 5.4 percent in 2003 to 6.8 percent in 2008.
In 2010 motorcycle fatalities rose 0.7 percent to 4,502 from 4,469 in 2009. In 2009 fatalities dropped 15.9 percent, the first decline in 13 years. In 2009, 58 out of every 100,000 registered motorcycles was involved in a fatal crash, compared with only 13 out of every 100,000 passenger cars. (Data not yet available for 2010.)
The 2010 increase in motorcycle fatalities occurred despite a considerable decrease in motorcycle sales. The Motorcycle Industry Council reported a 16 percent decrease in sales between 2009 and 2010. Sales in 2009 for 19 manufacturers were 520,502, falling to 439,678 in 2010,down by 80,824.

What is the source of the 2011 and 2012 data? I have been looking for this for some time but have not found the number of registered motorcycles beyond 2010.
